During a recent visit to the Stadler factory in Astana by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the first batch of locally produced trains was officially unveiled. Stadler is globally recognized as a high-end railway passenger train manufacturer known for stringent standards. As a core supplier to Stadler, Kangni’s bespoke products for this project – including door systems, sleeper berths, and multi-functional tabletops – became a focal point due to their outstanding performance and innovative design. This showcases the technological prowess and market influence of China’s high-end equipment in Belt and Road partner countries.
Kazakhstan’s railway modernization plan is a national strategic project. According to the agreement between Stadler and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ, the national railway company), 557 passenger cars, including hard-seat coaches, soft-sleeper cars, and barrier-free carriages, will be delivered by 2030. The first batch of 51 cars is scheduled to enter service by end of 2025. Kangni is deeply involved in this project, supplying a total of 11 modular products such as door systems, end doors, hinged doors, disabled lifts, sleeper berths, fire-rated partitions, non-fire-rated partitions, and compartment doors.
During manufacturing process, Kangni adapted car designs to local conditions, considering Kazakhstan’s climate and demands of long-distance railway transport. Developing three-system control linkage technology for passenger compartment door systems, the ergonomic structure of sleeper berths, and the soft upholstery process proved particularly challenging. Kangni and Stadler’s engineering teams went through multiple rounds of technical solution discussions, prototype testing, and improvements before successfully implementing the technologies. All modules passed customer’s First Article Inspection (FAI) and were delivered. Design adapted to harsh climates further boosts vehicle service life to up to 40 years.
Kangni’s self-developed series of new products, such as gangways, sleeper berths, and Passenger Information Systems (PIS), have successfully entered promotion and application phase. Their innovative design and technology effectively address diverse needs in rail transit market, providing strong momentum for overseas market expansion.
This presidential inspection not only recognizes solid capabilities of Kangni’s products but also serves as a vivid testament to deep involvement of China’s high-end manufacturing in global infrastructure through the dual-output model of “technology + standards”. Moving forward, the company will continue to pursue its dual-track strategy of intelligentization and greening, contributing to steady and long-term development of the Belt and Road transportation corridor.
